WHITE SPACE STRATEGY CAREERS: BUSINESS ANALYST

Develop your research, communication and analytical skills whilst working in a collaborative environment on some of the most exciting business problems facing global organisations today.

White Space Strategy supports our clients by providing up-to-the minute, granular market understanding and strategic recommendations to help them grow across a broad range of industries and geographies.

We’re looking for graduates and career changers from any discipline to join our team as analysts. We want to hear from people of all backgrounds who are keen to unpick complex markets and advise senior decision-makers.

ABOUT WHITE SPACE STRATEGY

White Space Strategy exists to drive growth. From our office in the heart of Oxford, we run projects with FTSE 100 companies that have a global impact. We’re listed in the FT’s Leading Management Consultants lists for: Strategy; Innovation, Growth & New Business Models; and Consumer Goods & Retail.

We help our clients grow by carrying out projects to understand their customers and suppliers, identify and size new needs, develop new products and propositions, and enter new markets. We support major global businesses to realise the opportunities in new technologies and tap into emerging trends.

Recent projects have included exploration of renewable energy, the future of recycling and plastic packaging, applications for NFTs, hydrogen power, and making the most of digital payment systems.

Clients include Mastercard, Panasonic, Unilever, Centrica, Cadent and national and local charities such as DEBRA and Helen & Douglas House.

THE ROLE AND YOUR IMPACT

Analysts are vital to our work. They provide the core of the research & analysis on projects, working collaboratively within a supportive team of experienced consultants.

You’ll explore new topics using interviews, online research, and data analysis to seek out the previously unknown. You’ll draw conclusions from this research about opportunities for growth and will share your insights and recommendations by writing and delivering engaging presentations directly to senior decision-makers.

Analysts work across multiple projects at the same time, so every day is different and there is always something new starting up! We encourage our analysts to take on responsibility early and you are likely to be managing temporary staff and interns within your first year to support your research streams.

OUR WAYS OF WORKING

As a small team, we work very closely together, and everyone works directly with clients.

We’re an ambitious bunch, and always want to be learning and progressing. We strive for a constructive feedback culture alongside regular appraisals and mentorship to support staff to focus on their core areas for improvement. We appreciate everyone’s input around how to make projects and the business better – analysts often contribute to planning around improvements to the organisations

Working on short engagements without client-site work means we can spend more time together and with our families and friends. As a team of people who love learning new things, most of us have interests outside of work that bring new perspectives and energy to our projects.

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for candidates with a 2:1 or above (achieved or expected) in any subject. We look to foster a diverse and inclusive environment, and are looking for people who are:

Curious: Are you always asking ‘why’ and wanting to dig into why the world works the way it does? Where will it go next?

Sharp: Can you see the big picture while keeping a keen eye on important details?

Personable: Do you like working collaboratively and supportively with others? Can you read the room and sense what approach to take?

Passionate: Can you make your case in a way that makes people sit up and listen?

You need to be able to handle multiple priorities within a deadline-driven environment and be willing to go the extra mile when needed to get the job done.

While business experience is not essential, you should be ready to learn about the way businesses work to support your commercial thinking.

BENEFITS

We know that graduates will be joining with very different experiences and backgrounds – we provide a comprehensive in-house induction and training programme in the first 3 months of joining, followed by on-the-job training and mentorship. Training in your first year will cover:

  • Developing world-leading research and analysis skills
  • Data analysis and modelling with large datasets in Excel, Alteryx and Tableau
  • Writing impactful and engaging slides in PowerPoint
  • Communicating to persuade and convince – whether by email, on Teams or in person

Our strategy is to promote from within and we review performance quarterly to support fast-tracking to team leadership positions for staff who are ready for this.

We offer 4 weeks each year of 100% remote working, to allow people to extend holidays or spend more time with families around celebrations.

We have a range of social activities including monthly pub trips, weekly run club, tennis in summer and make regular use of our well-stocked office bar.

Starting salary: £27k pa
