Background
Our client, leading pharmaceutical company, had identified a growing population of patients with Type 2 diabetes, and wanted to see if their connected devices would be appropriate for this patient group.
Since much of Type 2 diabetes care takes place in primary and community settings in England, our client wanted to understand these care locations and professionals better to help tailor their approach.
We aimed to understand potential demand for their insulin delivery solutions, focusing on how devices would be used and particularly how the data would be shared with healthcare providers.
Approach
Our approach involved conducting in-depth interviews with a range of healthcare professionals, including diabetes specialist nurses, practice nurses and prescribing pharmacists. Through these discussions, we developed insights into current insulin usage patterns and potential demand for these devices from patients with Type 2 diabetes, and the operational integration of connected insulin devices within healthcare settings.
We also explored the data handling and decision-making processes related to diabetes care, focusing on how healthcare providers would interact with and use the data from these devices to enhance patient management.
Outcome
We validated the market potential for connected insulin devices, emphasising the need for strategic deployment and careful consideration of go to market strategy.
Our recommendations focused on data-driven decision making and supporting healthcare providers.
