Background
The client was investigating hydrogen as a strategic energy source to align with future sustainability goals.
They aimed to leverage their extensive gas distribution network for potential hydrogen integration. This initiative was part of a broader strategy to transition towards greener energy solutions.
The client sought to position themselves with Local Authorities as a leader in the energy sector’s shift to sustainability, and to provide a suite of solutions which they would find helpful when developing Local Area Energy Plans (LAEPs).
Approach
We conducted a comprehensive analysis focusing on Local Authority needs across the UK and in the region covered by our client.
Our approach involved interviewing experts from 15 Local Authorities to understand their needs, then working with our client to co-create propositions that would address the needs, based on our client’s available resources.
We tested the proposition outlines with local authority experts (the proposition targets) to understand level of interest and their reflections, and used this insight to further refine the propositions.
Outcome
We shared 9 shortlist propositions, which were whittled down to 3 primary propositions based on internal and Local Authority feedback.
We provided rough costings and outline investment cases for these propositions. This allowed our client to plan their approach to Local Authorities over the next ~5 years
